KATOIKIES in the countryside
Pages
168Overview
The fourth issue of the periodical KATOIKIES is dedicated to the theme of the contemporary country house. Since antiquity, city dwellers have felt the need to withdraw—if only temporarily—from the intensity and social demands of urban life. From this desire emerged the country house: a space of seclusion, tranquility, and rejuvenation. From a brutalist shelter without windows amid the olive groves of Corfu, to an enclosed garden with a single room in the ancient oak forests of Kea, the ten featured residences in this year’s issue each approach the ideal of leisure living in their own way, while imaginatively exploring the timeless relationship between architecture and landscape. The issue also includes a historical section tracing the evolution of the Greek country house, as well as a feature on current exhibitions of art, architecture, and design in Greece and abroad. The issue “KATOIKIES in the Countryside” was released on Sunday, July 27, exclusively with Kathimerini newspaper.
