GREEK ARCHITECTURE AWARDS 2013
Overview
In the 'GREEK ARCHITECTURE AWARDS 2013' sixteen works (one comprising of two buildings built on the same plot) were shortlisted. Within the group of these top-ranking designs there are seven built works, five first (executed) buildings by young architects, and four projects. There is a total of thirteen works of a residential character, the overwhelming majority among the sixteen top-ranking designs, as might be expected in a country with no tradition of public policy for architecture. The entire range of housing possibilities is represented. Τhere are both permanent and holiday homes, small and large, individual and collective, luxury and frugal, new or remodeled, privately or corporately developed. The execution of the single top-ranking project of public character within Greece is being reported as discontinued by the Greek Archaeological Service, therefore only remaining as a ruin project. Three projects were entries in international architectural competitions. Once again there were too few submissions of social infrastructure and urban scale designs. The percentage of built works in the group of the top-ranking has been stable.
